Celebrating over 30 Years of Excellence in Cardiology and Compassionate Patient Care
Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada
Welcome to Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada! We are celebrating over 30 years of excellence in providing cardiovascular care to our patients!
Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada was founded in 1977 by Michael P. Sawaya, M.D., F.A.C.C. Since that time, our Practice has grown to meet the demands of the growing Las Vegas community.
Cardiology is a diverse discipline of medicine. Many procedures are available in interventional cardiology for the care of cardiac patients. Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada is proud to offer care in all aspects of interventional cardiology with state-of-the-art equipment in excellent hospitals.
We know much of the terminology may be unfamiliar to you, so please feel comfortable asking our physicians any questions you may have. We perform diagnostic cardiac catheterization to evaluate the severity of coronary artery disease or valvular diseases. Heart biopsies are sometimes needed in cardiac transplant patients or patients suspected of having an infiltrative or cardiomyopathic (heart muscle) disease. We also work in areas to improve blood flow to the heart without the need for surgery. This includes laser atherectomy; percutaneous balloon angioplasty to open the clogged heart artery; and, directional coronary atherectomy where the plaque is actually cut out of the inside of the artery. A similar process takes place when we perform rotational atherectomy or a transluminal extraction catheter procedure. We also implant stents, which are small metal coils to hold the artery open. There are many types of new stents being investigated as well as many new exciting procedures and treatments in cardiology on the horizon.
Another subspeciality of cardiology is electrophysiology, the study of heart rhythm problems. Our electrophysiologists work with common and benign rhythms as well as the dangerous ones that can cause sudden cardiac death. They act as clinical investigators of sophisticated cardiac devices and have access to these prior to being released for general use. Fatal heart rhythms are treated with internal defibrillators which will shock or pace a patient back to a normal heart rhythm, thus saving that person's life. Our electrophysiologists also perform a newer procedure called ablation, where once difficult-to-treat rhythm disturbances are now cured.
Cardiovascular Consultants of Nevada is a leader in our community with very prestigious clinical research protocols available to our patients prior to being available anywhere else in Nevada. This truly puts our physicians and patients at the cutting edge of cardiology care. ... >>
